In 2005, the Kingston General Hospital Foundation joined with its partner hospital foundations at Hotel Dieu Hospital and Providence Continuing Care Centre to establish a new joint hospitals foundation, now known as the University Hospitals Kingston Foundation. This joint foundation was put in place to raise funds in support of all three teaching and research hospitals in the academic health science centre associated with Queen’s University and to support the planned major hospital redevelopment program. It is now the active fundraising arm supporting the three hospitals.

The University Hospitals Kingston Foundation provides regular disbursements to the KGH Foundation. Funds disbursed to the KGH Foundation represent either a specific share of all gifts in support of the hospitals generally or funds that donors have designated to support Kingston General Hospital, the Cancer Centre of Southeastern Ontario at KGH or specific purposes near and dear to them personally.

The KGH Foundation is responsible for disbursing funds to Kingston General Hospital and its Cancer Centre as requested by individual donors and to administer and invest the various program and endowment funds it holds in a prudent manner. The Kingston General Hospital Foundation has raised more than $40 million to support patient care, teaching and research at Kingston General Hospital since it was established in the late 1970s. Over the years, the Foundation, led by a dedicated cadre of community volunteers, raised funds through the annual Black Tie Evening, the Foundation Society membership program, annual mailings, community events and programs designed for those wishing to make major gifts, bequests or other planned gifts.

The University Hospitals Kingston Foundation, led by volunteer representatives of the three hospital foundations, continues to provide the many giving and recognition opportunities formerly provided through the KGH Foundation.
