Our Purpose/Mission
The purpose/mission of the Infection Control Service is the prevention and control of infections, for the well-being of patients, healthcare workers and visitors, in a manner that demonstrates a commitment to caring, respect, effective utilization of resources and continuous improvement. We believe that it is the responsibility of each person working in the hospital to practice good infection control, the basis of which continues to be good aseptic technique and handwashing.
About our Logo
The owl was chosen as the symbol of infection prevention and control, since most prevention is based on Wisdom and Common Sense. The motto "Be Infection Wise" emphasizes this belief.
Function and Goals
Surveillance
Identify infections and strategies for intervention
and improvement through systematic and ongoing
collection, statistical analysis and reporting
of hospital-acquired infections and communicable
diseases. Maintain a strong liaison with
public health and allied professionals
Education
Provide orientation and continuing education on the principles and practices of infection prevention and control to all persons carrying on activities in the hospital
Policies & Procedures
Ensure policies, procedures and practices
reflect the most current research and standards
to provide a useful resource to personnel.
Ensure practices are relevant, eliminating
waste and unnecessary useage whenever possible
Consultation
Provide expert knowledge and direction to individuals and departments, internally and externally, on matters relating to the prevention and control of infections.
