Ontario Residents
The provincial health-care plan usually covers services received while in
hospital, such as the cost of a standard ward room (four beds to a room). The
following list is not complete but includes some of the costs that are not
covered by the provincial health insurance plan:
-
A semi-private or private room (unless needed for isolation);
-
Ambulatory aids such as crutches, fibreglass casts, canes or walkers;
-
Ambulance services;
-
Cosmetic surgery.
If you have a private health insurance plan or if you wish to pay supplemental
fees, you may be placed in a private or semi-private room. Please make sure
you/your family know what your private health insurance plan covers. You must
pay for any charges not paid by insurance plans or companies before you are
discharged from the hospital.
Residents of another Canadian province
Hospital costs are covered for residents of other Canadian provinces when they
present a valid health card from their home provincial health- care plan.
Patients are also responsible for any services not covered for an Ontario
resident.
Persons who are not residents of Canada
Patients from other countries are responsible for all costs of their hospital
admission, visits to clinics and the Emergency Department.
