Cardiac Care

The cardiac program encompasses a broad range of services in the fields of cardiology and cardiac surgery and provides comprehensive tertiary and quaternary care to the residents of southeastern Ontario. The program offers a full slate of diagnostic and therapeutic services with the exception of a cardiac transplantation program. In addition to inpatient care (including a coronary care unit, cardiovascular recovery intensive care unit and specialized step down units), the program offers general as well as subspecialized outpatient clinics, interventional cardiology, cardiac electrophysiology (including advanced ablation procedures and device therapy), echocardiography and cardiac rehabilitation in conjunction with Hotel Dieu Hospital.

Research

The Cardiac program is involved in a range of research initiatives including internally initiated and collaborative research Research into atrial fibrillation, implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) technology, efficient care delivery models and cardiac resynchronization therapy are among the program’s numerous accomplishments. The program participates in a number of multi-centre clinical trials and has also conducted research that has led to the development of access to care benchmarks.
