This program provides obstetric and general gynecology outpatient and inpatient
services with subspecialties in maternal fetal medicine, gynecologic oncology,
reproductive endocrinology and infertility and genetic counselling. Adolescent
obstetric and family planning services are also provided. The department
accepts patients through CritiCall referrals from across the province. The
department is represented and contributes in a number of other areas such as
the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, the Association of
Professors of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Society of Obstetricians and
Gynecologists of Canada.
Education
The Program plays a crucial role in providing education to an increasing number
of undergraduate students and postgraduate trainees in obstetrics and
gynecology including medical students, resident physicians, nursing students,
advanced practice nurses, midwives and other health care professionals. The
program provides a fellowship program in contraception, advice, research and
education (CARE Fellowship). KGH is a member of the Society of Obstetricians
and Gynecologists of Canada program “Managing Obstetrical Risk Efficiently –
MORE OB,” a patient safety improvement program for physicians, midwives and
nurses with a focus on respect, trust and continuous learning.
Research
The program promotes and develops Canadian Institutes of Health Research peer
reviewed research. Areas of research include maternal fetal medicine,
reproductive endocrinology and infertility, gynecologic oncology, and
urogynecology. The program maintains a resident research program with an
internal coordinator.
