Clinical
The Division is committed to the
provision of secondary and tertiary level
of care, with the exception of craniofacial
surgery, for the population of Southeastern
Ontario. This includes limited provision
of esthetic surgical services. Some consultation
services are also provided for Canadian
Forces Bases (CFB) Kingston and CFB
Trenton, and Correctional
Services of Canada.
Along with providing inpatient plastic
services in Kingston General Hospital and
consultations in the Providence
Continuing Care Centre, the Divisions
role includes the provision of outpatient
care through clinics in the Hotel
Dieu Hospital. The Division collaborates
with all surgical services, especially orthopaedics
and otolaryngology, in the provision of
clinical services. Inpatient care is provided
in collaboration with a multidisciplinary
team of nursing with specialized skills,
physiotherapy, occupational therapy, pharmacy
and social work.
The service has an interdependent relationship
with emergency services primarily for hand
and facial trauma, thermal injury (burns),
with the ICU, dermatology and neurology.
They rely on clinical lab, diagnostic imaging,
physiotherapy, occupational therapy, pharmacy,
intensive care, OR and PARR, mental health
and addictions, clinical nutrition, social
work, respiratory therapy, anaesthesia and
acute pain management services. There is
also a significant relationship with the
Cancer Centre
of Southeastern Ontario at Kingston General
Hospital for the care of cancer patients
in particularly otolaryngotomy, reconstructive
cancer surgery and the high volume of skin
cancer patients.
Research The Division of Plastic Surgery assumes
a role in research by conducting clinical
projects, supervising medical students
research, and disseminating research results.
