Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology is made up of the following five divisions:
- General Obstetrics and Gynaecology (New)
- Gynaecologic Oncology
- Maternal Fetal Medicine
- Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (REI), with a subdivision of Adolescent and Pediatric Gynaecology
- Urogynaecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery
Research is supported and encouraged at all levels throughout the program, including undergraduate summer student research projects, critical inquiries conducted throughout a resident's postgraduate education and research directed through the departmental divisions. Faculty members supervise critical inquiry projects of the second year Medical students (Phase IIC). The residents are involved with research projects ranging from reviews to clinical trials. The department has an active research program ranging from clinical audits to clinical trials.
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Queen's continues to adapt and evolve as rapidly as the changing nature of the specialty and the health care environment in which they function. Each of the five divisions has an active research program, including clinical trials, pregnancy and exercise, preterm complications, fetal brain injury, diabetes, family planning, genital prolapse, urinary incontinence and childbirth-related trauma to the pelvic floor; reproductive neuroendocrinology
and neuropeptide gene expression; and cervical cancer.
