Department of Oncology
The Department of Oncology, housed primarily in the Cancer Centre of Southeastern Ontario at Kingston General Hospital, fulfills its clinical role through the provision of multidisciplinary, comprehensive cancer care in the centre and Kingston General Hospital (KGH). The core programs involve radiation, systemic and surgical treatment, palliative medicine and supportive care, and prevention and screening. Along with these core programs the department sees patient and public education as important roles.
Members of the Department of Oncology conduct research and clinical trials related to care of patients with cancer. The research is conducted at the cancer centre in the hospital and at the Queen’s Cancer Research Institute. The majority of the department’s clinical trials research and all of physics research is undertaken at the cancer centre.
