Department of Psychiatry
The faculty of the Department of Psychiatry has 108 psychiatrists,
scientists and mental health professionals who are responsible for the delivery
of educational programs for undergraduate medical students and postgraduate
residents. As well, clinicians provide service to approximately 90 percent of
the psychiatric patients in Kingston and the surrounding area.
The departmental
offices are located in Providence Care, Mental Health
Services (http://www.providencecare.ca).
Clinical and teaching facilities are located at Hotel Dieu Hospital (http://www.hoteldieu.com/),
Kingston General Hospital, Providence Care, Mental Health
Services and Ongwanada (http://www.ongwanada.com/), Frontenac
Community Mental Health Services, and Napanee Community Mental Health Services.
Hotel Dieu Hospital, Kingston General Hospital, and Providence Care (Mental Health Services) are active treatment public hospitals, which
together represent the principal teaching hospitals affiliated with Queen's
University. Ongwanada in Kingston and
Rideau Regional Centre in Smiths Falls provide institutional and community
programs for persons with developmental disabilities. Both are associated with
Queen's University for teaching and research in relevant areas of family
medicine, genetics, paediatrics, and psychiatry.
Although not officially affiliated with Queen’s University, the
community agencies at Kingston and Napanee form an integral part of services
and participate in research and educational activities of the department. Divisions in the department include Adult
Acute Psychiatry, Adult Treatment and Rehabilitation Psychiatry, Child and
Adolescent Psychiatry, Developmental Disabilities, Consultation-Liaison
Psychiatry, Forensic Psychiatry, Geriatric Psychiatry, and Psychopharmacology.
