End of Life Care Research
The Clinical Evaluation Research Unit engages in a broad range of academic and industry-sponsored clinical research. The mission of the group is to improve the clinical care provided in the critical care setting through knowledge discovery, knowledge synthesis, and knowledge translation. Their website (www.criticalcareconnections.com) was developed to organize their knowledge generation, knowledge synthesis, and knowledge translation activities on the Internet, with the overall objective of improving the care provided in ICUs. The expectation is that improving the process of care will translate into improved clinical outcomes experienced by critically ill patients. By harnessing the power of the World Wide Web, we propose to influence practice in Canada and beyond.
The Clinical Research Evaluation Unit is closely linked with Critical Care Research (http://meds.queensu.ca/medicine/subpages/Roles/critcarerole.html). Research foci include nutrition, family satisfaction with ICU care, best practice guidelines associated with ventilator-associated pneumonia, innovative weaning strategies, health resource utilization and long-term follow-up of critically ill patients.
