Research Groups and Areas

Reproductive Sciences: Obstetrics and Neonatology

There are a number of Research Divisions within the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, reflecting research interests in the areas of obstetrics and neonatology. These include:


Gynaecologic Oncology, which participates in national and international clinical trials and divisional research projects. A number of on-going research studies and clinical trials are listed on the website:

Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, which maintains both clinical and basic science research programs. Academic work focuses on clinical research as it pertains to family planning, and the development of innovative education programs such as an Internet-based "Contraceptive Hotline" for physician queries created in conjunction with the SOGC.

Paediatric and Adolescent Gynaecology, which is a subdivision of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility.

Urogynaecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery, which focuses on areas of research including genital prolapse, urinary incontinence and childbirth-related trauma to pelvic floor.

Maternal-Fetal Medicine, which focuses on research areas such as prenatal diagnosis, pregnancy and exercise, intrapartum fetal asphyxia, prediction of preterm labour, chorioamnionitis and fetal brain injury, and tocolysis (treatment of preterm labour). There is significant overlap between this Division and the Queen’s Perinatal Research Unit.
