Reproductive Sciences: Queen’s Perinatal Research Unit

The Queen's Perinatal Research Unit is located within the Clinical Research Centre of Kingston General Hospital. Directed by Dr. Graeme Smith, the staff is involved in a number of initiatives including:

  1. PreEclampsia New Emerging Team (5-year study to determine when, after delivery, there is development of risk factors for cardiovascular disease in mothers, and potentially their babies, affected by preeclampsia);
  2. International Trial of Antioxidants for the Prevention of Preeclampsia (supplementation of Vitamins C & E);
  3. Ottawa and Kingston (OaK) Birth Cohort (particularly looking at folic acid deficiency in second trimester and adverse pregnancy outcomes).
